Local DFW Staffing Company Picks Up Two Awards For Excellence

October 25th, 2013

CornerStone Staffing

(Dallas / Fort Worth, Texas)

CornerStone Staffing wins the 2013 prestigious Consumers’ Choice Award, which is an award given to Businesses servicing their marketplace (DFW) with excellence.  After surveying buyers of staffing services and financially qualifying CornerStone Staffing, CCA made the award to CornerStone Staffing this July for the DFW marketplace.

CornerStone Staffing wins “Social Madness” which is a social media contest sponsored by the Dallas Business Journal. The contest measures a company’s social media engagement on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus.  Sixty-five Dallas-Fort Worth companies competed in three size categories (small, medium and large) based on each company’s collective social following during the month of June.  CornerStone Staffing won the contest for the medium category for the Dallas-Fort Worth market.

Social media is a fun way to stay in touch with friends and family, but can it also be a recruiting resource and a sales tool for a staffing agency?  You bet it can.  CornerStone Staffing has 10 branch offices and every year approximately 25,000+ candidates walk through the front doors into their brick and mortar buildings.  Agreeably, that is a big number.  But social media has enabled CornerStone Staffing to increase that reach by 3,000% in one year!!   CornerStone’s website had more than 1,068,000 visitors so far in 2013. In the month of September alone, more than 237,789 people were reached by CornerStone’s Facebook posts and more than 37,000 people were reached by CornerStone’s LinkedIn posts.  Without social media, it would have been impossible to expose CornerStone to that many people in that amount of time.  And it was FREE!!!

CornerStone Staffing provides paperless services to their clients over the web!  For the past 2 ½ years CornerStone Staffing has provided their clients with web based solutions for time keeping, order placing and invoicing.  CornerStone’s employees are able to complete employment applications, submit themselves to jobs, enter their time card, and view their paystubs all on line.

For the past 22 years, CornerStone Staffing has worked hard to establish a professional reputation for leading edge technology & a recognizable brand in the DFW marketplace. As one of the experts in the industry, they are committed to remain at the leading edge of emerging technology for customer services and social media options. Look for more exciting news in the near future from CornerStone Staffing!

CornerStone Staffing – Pack For A Purpose

March 22nd, 2013

Pack for a PurposeIn February, during a trip to Mexico’s beautiful Fairmont Mayakoba in Play del Carmen, CornerStone Staffing colleagues packed with a purpose. What was their purpose? To make an impact on the community they were visiting with a meaningful contribution.

CornerStone Staffing worked with the Pack for a Purpose organization and identified two groups they wanted to make donations to: “Save the Children in the Riviera Maya” and the “Playa Animal Rescue”.

CornerStone Staffing received donations from colleagues and local retail stores. They also asked for discounts from some of their vendors to help them stretch their resources. All items were paced in 7 large duffle bags weighing in at 50 lbs each. The airline donated some of the cost associated with shipping the duffle bags, thanks to an airline employee that was on the trip.

Items that were donated to “Playa Animal Rescue” included toys, bowls, collars, leashes, bedding, grooming supplies and non-beef treats. Beef treats were also donated but did not make it through the Cancun Airport.

Items that were donated to “Save the Children in the Riviera Maya” included school supplies, games, crayons, pens and pencils.

CornerStone Staffing would like to thank Jan and Mauricio from Playa Animal Rescue for attending their reception at the Fairmont Mayakoba to accept the donations. Playa Animal Rescue is doing great things to help the stray dogs of the Mayan Riviera and CornerStone is so thankful to be able to help in some small way.

This is definitely an experience that the colleagues of CornerStone Staffing will always remember! They are looking forward to their next colleague trip where they can “Pack for Purpose”.

CornerStone Staffing has been providing Texas with temporary, temp to hire and direct placement staffing in Fort Worth and Dallas since 1991.  For more information about CornerStone Staffing, please call 888-419-4119 or email us at info@cornerstonestaffing.com

Your resume: Focus on results not daily tasks

July 4th, 2012

Writing a resume is an art form. Employers do not want to see a list of your skills or the tasks you’ve performed on a daily basis. Today’s resume needs to provide more information. Focus your resume on the results of your job functions rather than daily tasks and your background will be more attractive to recruiters. Here are ideas you can use to implement this strategy on your resume.

  • Use the AARQ (Ark) formula. AARQ stands for “Action, Accomplishment and Results, and Quantify.” Begin by describing the action you used to make a difference. Then relay what these actions accomplished at the end of the project or year. Finally, show the numbers and statistics that support your claim.
  • Speak the company’s language. Ultimately, the hiring company is most interested in the bottom line. You need to show them that you are the right person to hire to achieve their objectives. This is best done by spelling out just the kind of success you’ve had in the past.
  • Accomplishments by career. Not only do you need to quantify the results for each position but also throughout your entire career. This demonstrates that your successes weren’t just a single occasion. Anyone can “save the company money” by doing a few small things, but when you show that you have done this over the course of several jobs throughout your career you become a more desirable candidate.
  • Be realistic. If you find that you are having difficulty finding specific events to showcase it is time to evaluate why this is the case. Did you simply show up to work every day, do what needed to be done, and go home? If you’re lacking the passion in your job it might be time to reconsider how you sell yourself to find a more rewarding position. Both you and your company deserve better than performing your daily duties like a robot. Evaluate your skills and accomplishments and rework them to fit a position that is better suited for you.

New Customer and Employee Updates to CornerStone Netlink

June 21st, 2012

CornerStone Staffing is pleased to announce the latest updates to our web portal, CornerStone Netlink. These updates include new features for both our employees and our clients.  The new portals include an easy to use time keeping system both for time card entry as well as customer approval of employee hours. Check out some of the things CornerStone Netlink has to offer.

  • Seamless payroll process. Employees can navigate their assignments online to create their own weekly time cards. Employees can input their start and end times as well as lunch hour for easy tracking.  Once an employee has entered the time, it takes one click to submit it for review. If the hours have been submitted prematurely, it is just as easy to go back and edit the time.
  • Simple time card review. Customers can easily access the employees’ hours to give the weekly approval necessary to process payroll each week. If the time card is reviewed and is missing information or the hours are incorrect, the customer can easily reject the card sending it back to the employee to make necessary changes and resubmit the hours for approval.
  • Paperless processes. With the Netlink system, both payroll and invoicing are 100% paperless. Timecards can be reviewed online or even on your smart phone. Invoices are emailed and include the details of the submitted time cards. Invoice payments can be done electronically as well.
  • Place your order on line. Request an employee directly from the CornerStone Netlink’s easy to use ordering system. The communication process is simple and streamlined through these online portals.
  • Customizable reporting. Netlink offers options for customized reports for your business. These can include the employee hours, money spent in the department, and much more. Have instant access to information you need to create your recruiting plan in the future.
  • Accessible Employee Data. This information can include total hours worked, pay and bill rates and employee performance evaluations. Keeping everyone informed of our processes is very important to us as we help to build a better workforce.

Updates to CornerStone Netlink went live on Monday, June 18th. Talk to us today about how our online portals can create a streamlined recruiting process for you.

Be Careful What You Tweet

June 14th, 2012

Saying it again makes us sound like a broken record: be careful what you tweet. We should all know by now that online social media sites such as Twitter are very public. What we post can be used against us whether it is while we’re looking for a job or if our 140 characters are subpoenaed for a lawsuit. It is very important that all of us make sure our tweets stay professional and proper or we could find ourselves on the wrong side of a legal battle.

  • Your tweets are archived. Not only are your tweets saved for posterity, they are part of the national archive. This means you can be arrested for something you have said on Twitter, and the police don’t need to have a warrant.  Even if you delete your tweet later it is too late, the files belong to the public record.
  • GPS location. So much of social media surrounds checking in at locations and letting people know exactly where you are.  These things can be used against you not only by criminals intent on doing harm but also by the law.
  • Perception is reality. Even if you post something as seemingly innocent as not liking someone, you can be charged with defamation or liable depending on how the law classifies what you said. Don’t post anything on the internet that you don’t want everyone to read no matter what privacy settings you have established.
  • Job discrimination can happen. The news has a lot of information today about how individuals are being denied jobs because of their social media movements. There is still some legal gray area when it comes to what is and isn’t okay for a company to use against a potential candidate, but it never hurts to be on the safe side. Always be professional.
  • Think before you post. The best thing you can do with Twitter is to think before you hit post. Will this post expose anyone? Does it infringe on anything? Is it negative or positive? Save the best gossip for face to face conversations with people you trust and only use Twitter to share the best snippets of your life.

Is social media confusing your job search? Contact CornerStone Staffing today to see how we can help.

Senator Robert Glasgow Community Award Goes to CornerStone Colleague

May 24th, 2012

Megan and the Senator Robert Glasgow Community Award

The below speech was given by Alana Hefner, Director of Career Services, at this year’s awards banquet at Tarleton State University. It honors our very own recruiter, Megan, with the Senator Robert Glasgow Community Award for dedicating time and resources to supporting and enhancing student life at Tarleton State University:

  • CornerStone is a regular sponsor for job fairs and continues to find ways to go above and beyond to reach Tarleton students. They have a partnership with Talent Rooster, cutting edge technology, to offer Tarleton job seekers access to software to create professional video resumes. CornerStone identified Tarleton State University as the one and only campus with whom they wanted to partner and offer this amazing service free of charge. This is an enormous honor given that TCU, UT Dallas, UT Arlington, UNT, and TWU are in CornerStone’s backyard.
  • Megan is a Tarleton graduate. She has made countless trips to Tarleton’s Stephenville campus from Arlington, given class presentations, attended job fairs, conducted campus-wide workshops, and joined faculty meetings in an effort to develop a deeper connection with faculty/staff/students.
  • The Tarleton partnership is Megan’s brainchild as she sought out our office with this wonderful, generous service.
  • She and CornerStone have been a tremendous asset and resource to the student body and Career Services through their willingness to make countless trips to the university to build relationships with the students and faculty as well as their monetary support in this challenging economy.
  • Our students now have a chance to participate in the newest incarnation of the classic, but increasingly dated, paper resume. Numerous alumni have used this technology successfully, which has resulted in job offers.
  • Specifically, Megan has placed over 15 Tarleton graduates  in careers in just little over a year.
  • Thank you Megan and CornerStone for you commitment and dedication to our students.

Happy Anniversary, CornerStone Staffing!

April 22nd, 2011

In June 1991, a new staffing service with just 2 employees came to town touting qualified and reliable temporary associates. This new service  opened its doors on Summit Avenue in Fort Worth, TX where their original office still resides. A few companies decided to give this new service a shot that year…Charlotte at Harris Hospital and Michelle at RadioShack.

Originally, we were a service focused on clerical staffing until Tecnol said, “You do such a good job filling our front office orders; would you consider staffing our plant?” We did and began staffing manufacturing plants and warehouses all over Tarrant County; including staffing 2200 people for Nokia, building cell phones at three different locations. Soon after that a new concept came to town…”buy your own stocks” through a company called TD AmeriTrade and our staffing company was asked to staff their new Alliance call center.

It has been quite a ride, growing to 13 branch locations in the late 1990’s, shrinking to 7 branches, and currently at 10 branches celebrating our 20th anniversary by entering the Dallas market with our newest branches in Addison and Downtown Dallas.

Now, celebrating 20 years in the DFW market, we look back on some great memories & lasting relationships with which we are still blessed; Texas Health Resources (formerly Harris Hospital), RadioShack, TD AmeriTrade, and many, many others. We look forward to many more partnerships in the next 20 years.

On behalf of all of us at CornerStone Staffing…THANK YOU!!! We truly appreciate your business, and to show you we mean it, CornerStone Staffing is offering 4 hours free temporary service to any clients referencing this blog when placing an order.

Assessment Tools for Making Better Hires

April 21st, 2011

Having the right tools at your disposal can make hiring a lot easier—and a lot more successful.  Here is a quick overview of different assessments tools you can use, beyond the basic job interview:

Qualifications Screens – simple questionnaires determine if an applicant has the minimum requirements to perform a job (availability, minimum age, years of related experience, etc.).

Job Simulations / Work-Sample Tests – These require the candidate to actually demonstrate or perform job tasks. Simulations may be conducted: as written tests, as role-playing exercises, on a computer, or even in real-life conditions. By design, they generally show a high degree of job-relatedness.

General Abilities Tests – Generally used for entry-level jobs or for applicants without advanced degrees. They measure broad mental abilities such as reasoning, quantitative, verbal, and spatial abilities.

Specific Ability Tests – Test for distinct mental and physical abilities, such as typing speed, reading comprehension, strength, and mechanical aptitude.

Knowledge and Skills Tests – Determine how much an individual knows about a very specific, advanced subject area such as software programming or mortgage laws. Knowledge tests are similar to specific ability assessments, but examine more sophisticated skills.

Talent Measures / Personality Inventories – Measure a candidate’s natural personal characteristics like: leadership and management skills; problem-solving ability; motivation; self-confidence; and communication styles.

Culture Fit Inventories –  Assess how well an applicant will fit into your corporate culture and work environment, to help ensure organizational commitment.

Background Investigations – Gather information from outside sources, such as former employers and police records. Employment, criminal record, and reference checks all help employers avoid potentially catastrophic hires.

Drug Screens – Use a physical specimen from the candidate (hair, urine, etc.) to determine past drug or alcohol use. Employers use drug screens to prevent industrial accidents, work-related injuries, and excessive absenteeism.

If you would like more information about any of the above assessments please contact our offices today.

Hiring Decisions – When is the Right Time to Hire?

March 17th, 2011

Hiring Decisions – When is the Right Time to Hire

Let’s face it, in many businesses payroll is one the largest (if not the largest) line item on your monthly budgets.  So, it can sometimes be a very difficult decision to add on more staff.  BUT, in some cases adding staff strategically can help drive a lot of profit to your bottom line.

So when do you know it’s time to hire?  Here are a few warning signs:

  1. When bottlenecks are holding up production.
If you find that a certain area of your business is continually a bottleneck, then it’s time to evaluate your talent needs.  In many cases, adding one or two new skilled people can have a dramatic effect on production and profits.
  2. When you miss out on new business because you don’t have the needed help.
You’ve probably had a lot of great ideas for new business ventures; however, you may not have the resources to implement those plans. But with temporary or contract workers, you can tap into the resources you need, when you need them, in order to take on new opportunities and grow your business – whether that means hiring a contract IT guru to improve information security, or taking on litigation specialists for a special case.
  3. 3. When being a “do-it-yourselfer” is distracting you from your core job duties. Instead of taking the time to learn a new skill on your own, or spending hours trying to train your staff, bring in an experienced contract employee who can offer you the knowledge and capabilities you need on a temporary basis. There’s no learning curve and once the project is finished, you don’t have to worry about the cost of a full-time employee.

If you’re faced with any of these challenges, CornerStone Staffing can help.  As the leading staffing and recruiting agency in Weed, we can provide on-demand temporary staff to help eliminate bottlenecks, or recruit people with the specific skill sets you need.
